A Scatter of Light ARC Giveaway

In honor of Pride month I’m giving away two Advance Readers Copies of my next novel, A Scatter of Light (coming out Oct. 4, 2022). I’ll sign, personalize, and ship one copy within the US, and one copy internationally, and subscribers to my newsletter Lo & Behold get an extra chance to win.

A Scatter of Light is set in 2013, sixty years after Last Night at the Telegraph Club, and although it’s not a direct sequel, you will find out more about Lily and Kath. Here’s what it’s about:

Aria Tang West was looking forward to a summer on Martha’s Vineyard with her best friends—one last round of sand and sun before college. But after a graduation party goes wrong, Aria’s parents exile her to California to stay with her grandmother, artist Joan West. Aria expects boredom, but what she finds is Steph Nichols, her grandmother’s gardener.

Soon, Aria is second-guessing who she is and what she wants to be, and a summer that once seemed lost becomes unforgettable—for Aria, her family, and the working-class queer community Steph introduces her to. It’s the kind of summer that changes a life forever.

And here are some wonderful early reviews of the book from readers like you (warning: clicking through will take you to the full reviews, which contain some mild spoilers):

“If there's one thing Lo does brilliantly, it's mess. And not the modern definition of "mess" with awkward (but endearing) advances, but true raw mess. This book takes that strength and runs wild with it. … Everything about this story was gripping and jaw-dropping and beautiful, even the parts that were hard to look at directly. This is the epitome of what a companion novel should be - wholly enjoyable on it's own, but with extra treats for fans of the original.” – @rhdscllns

“i sit here in complete awe of this free-spirited story, because it was so far from what i was expecting … as i got into it, i let go of anything i knew, and just let this story drive me. … i was promised closure with lily and kath, and that didn’t disappoint, but as much as i loved hearing a similar voice to telegraph club, familiar tones and a sort of parallel action, i think it’s almost stronger to let this book be on it’s own. malinda lo cinematic universe if you will: lily hu on one plane, aria tang west on another, tears and sobs connecting them.” – @perilouspages
